Costs

Our current membership fee is £120 per year. This covers our usual meetings at the Scout Hut, badges, insurance etc. Additional activities such as outings and camps usually have an additional cost for those choosing to attend. We are a non-profit charity and aim to keep Scouting affordable and accessible to all.

Uniform

We are a uniformed organisation, each section has a different uniform and standards. You can buy Scout uniforms either from our online Scout Store or from a local supplier. If you’re not sure where to start, your group’s volunteers should be able to give you more information about what to buy and where to buy it. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second hand.

We have a group neckerchief (also known as a scarf, but we usually say ‘Necker!’) which is green and gold- we present this, and the initial joining badges at an investiture ceremony for new members. The necker is held in place using a ‘woggle’ (a small tube the necker slides through).

Beaver uniform consists of a blue sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or 'necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts, if you’d like to.

Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or 'necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts.

Scouts wear a uniform during their weekly meetings and sometimes on trips away, depending on where they're going and what they're doing. Usually, this consists of a teal green shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with a scarf, known as a necker.

We do different activities easy week so prepare to get messy/dirty and spend lots of time being active and adventurous!

Badges

Whether you’re an animal lover or an avid reader, an inspired photographer or a budding chef, you name it, we’ve got a badge for it - over 200 of them, actually.

Scouts work together on badges at their weekly meetings, away at camps, on events or they can do them at home. There’s never any pressure to do badges, so Scouts can do as many or as few as they like. Badges are easy to earn and, for lots of them, you don’t need anyone special to sign them off.

For those up for a challenge, there are loads of exciting badges to aim for. We’ve got the Chief Scout's AcornBronzeSilver, GoldPlatinum and Diamond Awards. These are the highest awards that Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers can earn.

And for those going even further, the King’s Scout Award is the top achievement for young people in Scouts.

Scout Store

Scout Store is owned by the Scouts and all of our profits go directly back into Scouting.

The store is the dedicated and official uniform retailer for BeaversCubs, ScoutsExplorers and Network as well as a full range of casual clothing including the Fleur De Lis range, accessories for all sections, gifts, and outdoor equipment
